MPG-o-Matic was founded by Daniel Gray, best-selling tech author, lifelong automotive enthusiast, and breakfast serial entrepreneur. A child of the sixties, Dan grew up with a love for cars index that knew no bounds, other than his wallet. "It was all about muscle cars, back in the day. I'd sit at the kitchen table, eating bowl after bowl of Quisp and Quake, while flipping through dog-eared copies of Hot Rod and Road and Track," said Dan. "The American dream was simple. Just pump in five bucks of high-test and the throttle was wide open." Now he has created a car blogs directory.

Where mileage matters!

DOZENcars decided to take an in depth look at MPG-o-Matic and scope out their car blogs directory. If you enjoy a plethora of articles and videos that seem to scroll down indefinitely, then this is the car blog post for you. We personally prefer more substance. The language is hard to understand and the content is boring. We graded them accordingly.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

Navigation here in this auto blog is like pulling teeth. We were totally unimpressed with the offerings on blog site. It’s a vertical scrolling option – with a couple of videos and a matt finish to the graphics on screen. The page is uninspiring and lacks that ‘see more’ element that is so alluring on top car blog sites. We waited interminably for videos to download. Moving between pages is equally inane – it’s an exercise in futility. There is too much advertising on these pages. On a positive note, there is however plenty of room for improvement.

We posed the question: who writes this blog? Is it one author or a group of writers/bloggers? I guess we’ll never know. That’s because MPG-o-Matic doesn’t let you in on this secret. We like to know the sources of the information we read.

How car crazy is this site? Is this a site for people that are crazy about cars? Does it include statistics? Sneak previews of latest models or other useful car content? .

Motor Madness is one thing. But actually claiming to be a motoring enthusiast and getting others to believe it, requires making an extra-special effort. This site sure has a lot of information on the engine capacities of cars, their performance and the like – but it fails to engage its audience in any meaningful manner. That’s its downfall and we spotted it.

Size isn't everything.

When it comes to actual postings and the length of posts, we were bitterly disappointed. We have stated that brevity is a key feature of successful blog posts. However, the content must be engaging and enlightening for us to consider brief posts worthwhile. These posts by MPGomatic.com are hardly worth their salt. They are clunky, of varying length and uninspiring. Not exactly a winning formula.

In the social realm, these guys have come up empty handed once again. Sadly for them, this is another area where they fail to hold their own. It is now clear that Mpgomatic has an innate predisposition towards mediocrity. This is utterly disappointing.

How interactive is this site? Is there a Facebook Group? Twitter? RSS feeds? Linked In? Forum? We found out. .

In the multimedia realm, MPGomatic is doing an okay job. Included with a range of quality videos on site are some fine-quality pictures to enjoy. The blog itself is a superb means of sharing information to the public at large. There are RSS feeds, sharing options and referrals to enjoy. Not super stuff, but certainly adequate.

What else can I do here? We gave extra points to sites with RSS feeds.

We searched for the most recent posts and then ascertained their quality. It appears that several of the 5 categories on site have dated content. We found 2008 car reviews and 2007 updates. This is rather disappointing in terms of decent, updated and reliable content. The homepage attempts to stay up-to-date, but there are large gaps in submission dates of articles and reviews. Some are as far apart as 1 week or more.
