BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) was established in 1975 as the United States importer of BMW luxury/performance vehicles. BMW of North America assumed import and distribution responsibilities for BMW motorcycles in 1980. BMW of North America also began to distribute light trucks in 1999. BMW of North America's Corporate Headquarters is located in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.

What is the wow factor here? Is this site going to blow my mind with its cool.

Cool!!

BMW is a wow cars brand, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. There is a smidgeon of doubt about whether BMW did their level best to blow away the competition when it comes to their website. We enjoyed the promo videos and the sales pitch, but what we were looking for was a feel; a uniquely BMW vibe that is both opulent and classic, a synergism of desire and possibility infused into their site. What we found however was a clinical depiction that is not innately BMW.

Navigating through the BMW cars manufacturers site is an experience. Sadly it’s not the most awesome experience either. The reason being that several of the category pages took far too long to load up. This detracts from the overall impression of the site. They may own the ultimate driving machines, but their website is in need of a little fine-tuning.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

Here we were rather lucky – eventually. We happened upon a page titled: ‘All BMWs.’ It was here that we could see the full range of all the models manufactured by BMW. A simple mouse-over reveals a pop-up screen listing the model specifications. This includes things like RWD or FWD, horsepower, engine capacity, price and the like. We are impressed.

How detailed are the car model specifications? Do you get a good feel of the vehicle.

This is yet another section that is relatively easy to navigate. Customers can simply click on ‘Dealer Locator’ of car companies and Walla! Enter the ZIP code, or state and you’ll likely find a BMW dealer in your area. A map overlay would be a far more efficient way of plotting proximity to a dealer though.

BMW is always going to be a cutting-edge brand. Their cars are geared toward luxury driving and they use the latest computer technology to power their production line of vehicles. But our review is of their website and it is there that we scrutinized them with a critical eye. They are innovative, and yet they lack the panache of say Mercedes-Benz. Class must be melded with innovation, otherwise it means nothing.

BMW ranks right up there with the best of them in terms of multimedia options. We were chuffed to see the wizardry of BMW computer software at work. Videos, high-graphics pictures, build it yourself tutorials, guides and all manner of sophisticated multimedia options abound.

Can I find local dealers? If so.

In terms of social options, we were initially only able to find RSS feeds. After we clicked on videos we were relieved to find that indeed the BMW site offers 4 other types of social options in Facebook, MySpace, Digg and Delicious. Overall it’s adequate, not outstanding.

how easy is to locate and use? Is there a site map or easy drop-down list?.

We found a relatively decent support page, and the ‘site page’ actually lists very specific details with individual models listed. The problem is that this is not intuitive or user-friendly. Customers can contact the BMW USA center but the forms that they have to fill out are daunting. This is disappointing.
