What is the wow factor here? Is this site going to blow my mind with its cool.

Surfing through a top auto companies site is supposed to be a dream experience. So while we were somewhat impressed by what we saw, we were hardly blown away. As a leading global player in the car market, Honda.com could have done a far more compelling job of providing a stunning homepage. This sadly has not been the case.

slick design or is it going to an ordinary manufacturer site like all the others?.

Navigating through Honda’s site is not the pleasant experience owing to the rapidity of flash banners blazing away on cars companies site. It’s certainly an eye-catching experience, but one we feel detracts from drawing our attention to the purpose of our visit – viewing the vehicles. It is loaded with text that is neither user-friendly to look at, nor well categorized. We feel that they have slipped up in this aspect of site design.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

We clicked on the Honda 2010 Acura ZDX for a start. After clicking through several times we found the specific model page of cars index. Then we had to navigate down the left-hand panel to find ‘specifications.’ You can imagine how tedious this all becomes. Especially when we ended up finding 18 model specs to view. It’s overwhelming and a little disconcerting because it is loaded with jargon.

How detailed are the car model specifications? Do you get a good feel of the vehicle.

Locating a dealer isn’t that hard. What is somewhat annoying here is the length of time it takes for these Honda.com pages to load up. They are apparently very heavy in search engines and it takes lot longer to display information from page to page, when compared to Top sites like Kia and Mercedes-Benz. While dealer location is easy enough, it’s the externalities around this feature that detract from its effectiveness.

There are several examples of top innovation at Honda.com – the least impressive of which is the hive of activity on site. It can get pretty excessive with all the bright colors and flux going on. Pages navigate to new sites with completely different looks and feels. We prefer innovation with consistency throughout. One almost gets the impression that each category page designs innovatively according to its own criteria with little correlation to the leadership’s vision.

design and power?.

Honda goes to great lengths to market itself as a techno-age manufacturer of engines and vehicles. This includes bikes, cars and SUVs among others. There is impressive, albeit advertising-ridden content, with some stellar promotional videos and hyped up commentary. There are high-gloss images and a fully-interactive portal that goes further than most. Examples include building your own model, brochures and the like.

Can I find local dealers? If so.

Honda scores better than some of the top car manufacturers in this realm. There are links to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube and a range of other social media interactive icons. On this score we are well pleased with Honda – although it’s really hard to find these options.

how easy is to locate and use? Is there a site map or easy drop-down list?.

The ‘Contact Us’ page is an absolute disaster. It reads more like the fine print of a technical journal than a user-friendly page. We had to use a fine-tooth comb to try and unravel which sections pertain to our car queries. Not nice at all.
