EV World commenced publication officially on January 1, 1998. Their objective -- then as now -- is to provide a human face to the topic of sustainable transportation with a focus on the people and policy, as well as technology.

What is the wow factor here? Is this site going to blow my mind with its cool.

It took us several minutes just to try and figure out what embedded image we were staring at on the EV World homepage. Eventually we gave up. This cars index site does little to impress an avid car technology audience. It looks more like a middle-school web project than a high-tech car site. DOZENcars saw little in the way of innovation or design that was impressive.

There are some nice drop-down menus on this car technology site, but the categories are so diverse that we don’t know what to expect half the time. Everything from user guides to business administration is listed. It’s all out there, and so is the navigation – we might as well be surfing Mars.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

There is a forward-thinking element to this site. They entertain some tired future car concepts like American power vs. imported oil, but otherwise they don’t really have a Future Factor per se. It’s more like a discussion or various opinion pieces on topical interest articles.

How futuristic is this site? Is it breaking new ground in the green tech or electric car industry? We grade on the future of cars… .

We browsed the car tech site in search of the latest opinion pieces or article updates. We stumbled across an update section and found that the last entry was from 2008. So we redoubled our efforts and located more articles. Luckily there are several fresh articles on site and EV World scores an okay grade in this component.

SThere are RSS feeds and that’s pretty much it in this future car site. This is most disappointing to us. We were hoping for a whole lot more. If users navigate to the videos the only apparent ways to share them are via embed code or URL. This is a major step backward when one considers that EV World is a future oriented site

Is this site safe? Does the site protect my personal information? Is the privacy policy easy to find? Will this site bombard me with emails or share my details with other providers? Is this site recommended or verified by a regulator?.

The good news is that video, audio and photos are available on EV World. The videos are pretty bland and the photos are of a relatively decent quality The bad news is that as of 24 March 2010, only EV World subscribers have access to MP3 Podcasts, unless the featured individual or company has paid to allow wider and longer access to interviews. This is like saying that users are free to choose any car on site provided it’s a mini cooper; it is simply laughable.

How interactive is this site? Is there a Facebook Group? Twitter? RSS feeds? Linked In? Forum? We found out. .

We posed the question: can you contact this site with queries? The answer it seems is yes, but. It appears that the editor-in-chief is out in Nebraska and the only way to get in touch is via email, telephone or snail mail. There is no toll-free contact telephone number, no online form, and no live-help section on site.
