GreenCar.com is a leading car technology website dedicated to providing avid car enthusiasts, environmentalists and everyday consumers with information about green vehicles, green energy and technologies. Many of the articles like ‘How To Get The Best Car & Fuel Economy’ and ‘How Hydrogen Fuel Cells Work’ are written to provide their audience with the most current research and to help car buyers make the most informed purchases. Green Car will soon offer visitors with an interactive application like a gas savings calculator and relevant videos covering the green car space.

What is the wow factor here? Is this site going to blow my mind with its cool.

2010 Green Car

While we really liked the novelty of the green leaf and the Velozzi Electric Car, little else was able to captivate our attention in this online cars site and leave us gasping in delight. The site is neat and entertaining but hardly measures up to Mercedes-Benz or Audio or BMW in terms of its ability to completely blow us away.

Navigation is simplistic. There’s nothing much to write home about. GreenCar promotes eco-friendly vehicles and there seems to be a little too much going on to grab our attention and hold us. Pages take a little while to load up and everything appears to be driven towards promoting one brand or other. We are less inclined to enjoy this site for its advertising value than we are for its informative component.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

The modus operandi – so it seems – is to give consumers information on what is available in terms of future car oils, engines, fuel efficiency and alternative energy. Is this future oriented? Or is it rather examining the possibilities at present? Either way there seems to be a little something missing here and we’re not entirely convinced they’re on the right track.

How futuristic is this site? Is it breaking new ground in the green tech or electric car industry? We grade on the future of cars… .

When we navigated to the articles section, we found that the latest article was posted over 10 days ago. That just doesn’t sit right with us. We are looking for a car tech site that makes big strides at keeping abreast of car developments and leading the way.

According to GreenCar, they will not collect PII about users through the service unless users disclose such information to them. They will not knowingly disclose PII about users that they collect through the service to third parties, except under the limited circumstances described in their policy; and they will take reasonable steps to protect the security of the PII they collect from users through the service. This is not entirely reassuring to us. We graded them accordingly.

Luckily for GreenCar they do sport a large variety of social options on their site. These include sharing information with: delicious, StumbleUpon, Facebook, RSS, Google Bookmarks and MyYahoo! It’s pretty decent and they do a good job of displaying their icons all over the place.

Is this site safe? Does the site protect my personal information? Is the privacy policy easy to find? Will this site bombard me with emails or share my details with other providers? Is this site recommended or verified by a regulator?.

We were impressed by the well-made videos on site and the RSS feeds. The photos are pretty good too. But we didn’t see anything for mobile phones, no MP3 audio files and no interactive demos or tutorials. So they score an average grade for an average performance.

How interactive is this site? Is there a Facebook Group? Twitter? RSS feeds? Linked In? Forum? We found out. .

This is another area where there is scope for significant improvement. GreenCar has a support section but it is comprised entirely of a solitary online contact form. We were expecting a host of options including telephone, fax, email, live support and the like. No such luck!
