In arguably the most important slice of auto news this decade - even century - comes reports that a car is able to actually drive itself. Is this true? Well apparently it is and here is the proof.

This is a story about a car - an Audi TTS to be precise
Imagine a professor who is not only all theory and no practice? Well that's exactly what professor of mechanical engineering Chris Gerdes is. He and his Dynamic Design Lab are preparing to run Mouton's namesake, a white Audi TTS named "Shelley," up the mountain again. Gerdes' team of graduate and Ph.D. students and Volkswagen's Palo Alto research lab have spent the last two years conceptualizing and modifying the car to make the solo climb up the Peak.

Gerdes' team of graduate and Ph.D. students and Volkswagen's Palo Alto research lab have spent the last two years conceptualizing and modifying the car to make the solo climb up the Peak. It is said that at this point in time the lovely car - Shelley- knows enough to navigate parking lots and racetracks around Stanford. But not all systems are ready for launch at this time. The car is still being fine tuned. At a recent driverless speed test in Bonneville Salt Flats, the car - ‘Shelley' has some issues when she passed 130 mph. But if this is anything to go by - then the future of driverless cars is something to look forward to.
